Simple & Effective Ways to Book More Clients

When you are just starting out in your photography business, you may have trouble finding clients at first. It may seem like you are posting on your social platforms constantly and maybe even offering free shoots in order to gain experience and build a portfolio.

While I believe that any experience is valuable when you are just starting out, free shoots aren’t the only way to build a portfolio, gain more exposure, and book more clients. It takes a combination of strategies to best showcase your skills and passion. This is a comprehensive list of simple and effective ways to get more clients.

   – Showcase your best work in an online portfolio. Make sure it’s easy to navigate and visually appealing.

   – Highlight a variety of photography styles and subjects to demonstrate your versatility.

Leverage Online Marketplaces

   – Join photography marketplaces like 500px, Shutterstock, or Adobe Stock to sell your photos and gain exposure.

   – Use platforms like Etsy if you offer prints or photography-related products.

Networking

   – Attend photography workshops, conferences, and local photography clubs to meet fellow photographers and potential clients.

   – Collaborate with other professionals, such as makeup artists, models, or event planners, who can refer clients to you.

    – Attend networking events, trade shows, and industry conferences to connect with potential clients and fellow professionals.

Social Proof and Testimonials

– Collaborate with other photographers on creative projects. This can expand your network and lead to shared referrals.

Use Online Directories

    – List your photography services on online directories like Yelp, Google My Business, and Bing Places for Business.

Partner with Influencers

 – Work with social media influencers or bloggers in your niche for collaborations or sponsored posts to reach a wider audience.

    – Get involved in your local community by sponsoring events, volunteering, or offering photography services for charity auctions. I personally have volunteered for community and private events, as well as creating a photo booth at my local Farmer’s Market and offering a free digital image download for each visitor. If you have a local newspaper or publication, volunteer or send in shots from a community event… Get creative and put yourself out there! Risk comes with Rewards!

Targeted Facebook Groups

    – Join and actively participate in Facebook groups relevant to your photography niche. Share your expertise and promote your services when appropriate.

Professional Associations

    – Join professional photography associations like the Professional Photographers of America (PPA) to gain credibility and access to resources. If you are in a niche like real estate photography, check out your local realtors association.

Remember that the key to success in attracting photography clients is a combination of online and offline efforts. Consistency in your marketing efforts and a commitment to delivering exceptional photography services will help you build a strong client base over time. Also, keep in mind that client retention is just as important as client acquisition. Deliver high-quality work, exceed client expectations, and maintain good communication to build long-lasting relationships that lead to repeat business and referrals.
