I am always looking for fun and creative places for photoshoots. Some public and semi-private locations can be great places for a photoshoot.
If you are thinking of doing more than snapping a few selfies, I do recommend getting in contact with the location ahead of time to inquire whether there is any permission required. You can also ask any questions about whether there is an admission fee, when the best times for this might be, or any other limitations the location may have.

I live in the Midwest so winters are not always amenable to outdoor shooting unless you like freezing your fingers off!
